"Making a Difference"

The RCHS Local School Improvement Committee is currently looking for stories of groups or individuals that make a difference in the lives of those around them.  If you know of a special teacher, counselor, administrator, student, group or organization that makes a difference in our school or community please let us know.  We will be honoring individuals and groups throughout the year for their valuable contributions.

 Whose idea is this, and what is it about?

 The Local School Improvement Council (LSIC) at RCHS is starting this program as one element in our efforts to “Cultivate a Community of Caring”.  The intent of the program is to call attention to some of the many good things that happen at RCHS by recognizing any member of the HS community who makes an extraordinary positive contribution or effort.

 What do we want to accomplish and why?

 Those in the school community are encouraged to perform better when they feel positive about themselves and what is going on around them on a daily basis. By calling attention to positive behaviors we hope to increase their occurrence and improve the overall school attitude and climate.

 We also want to increase communication between members of the HS community and members of the community at large.  This is an important element in helping our youth move from students to productive citizens; and students and teachers benefit from community and parent involvement.

 Who can be nominated for “Making a Difference @ RCHS”?

 You can nominate any individual or group who is part of the RCHS community.  This can be individual students, teachers, service personnel, administrators, and members of formal or informal groups at RCHS.

 Who can make a nomination and how?

 Anyone can make a nomination.  There are three ways to do this:

• Write it on an index card or piece of paper, and put it in the Making a Difference box mounted on the wall across from the entrance to the school office.
• Go to the school’s website roanecountyschools.com/rchs and follow the link to the Making a Difference page.  This will give you some info and direct you to email your nomination to knashley@access.k12.wv.us .
• Mail your nomination to:  Making a Difference @ RCHS, One Raider Way, Spencer, WV 25276

 What information is needed in a nomination?

 Describe the specific action, situation, or characteristic that you believe is worthy of recognition.  Include the name(s) of those performing and receiving the good acts, as well as your own name.

 Who selects the winners and when?

 Nominees will be reviewed by the LSIC once a month.

 What will be done to recognize those selected as “Making a Difference @ RCHS”?

 They will be recognized in school, in the newspaper, and on the radio for making our school and/or community a better place.  They will also receive a certificate of appreciation from _____________________.  (Mayor Williams to fill in this blank.)
