The Local School Improvement Council at Roane County High
School is pleased to announce the next round of "Making A Difference" Awards.
These awards are presented each month to persons in the School Community who
have been noticed making a positive difference for those around them.
Two nominations were recognized this month by the LSIC. The two nominations
recognized a total of 7 students.
The first award was presented to RCHS senior Kevin Walker who noticed a group of
students trying to "pick a fight" with another student who was trying to get
away from the situation. Kevin calmly took the student into a classroom which
ended the confrontation.
"His mature demeanor, ability to recognize the gravity of the situation, and
willingness to intervene stopped a potential fight and set a good senior
leadership example."
The second award was presented to a group of young men for their effort "above
and beyond required schoolwork to educate themselves for a friend." Ethan
Stewart, Briar Nichols, Andrew Jorgenson, Dustin Johnson, Justin Johnson, and
Jacob Summers have learned to 'sign'
to better communicate with a hearing impaired friend and teammate. According to
the faculty person who nominated them, "It is truly a neat thing to watch and I
believe it makes a difference to their friend and that it will (and has) made a
difference in their lives, too."
The awards were presented by LSIC Chair Don Keller and County Clerk Charles
White representing the Spencer/Roane County Community.
