The Local
School Improvement Council at Roane
County High School is pleased to
announce that we have chosen to
recognize both a teacher and a student
with our monthly award for “Making a
Difference”.
Nominated
by a teacher, RCHS student Joe Blakey is
receiving the “Making a Difference”
award for setting a good example.
Without being asked, Joe frequently does
various tasks to keep the classroom and
school cleaner. Joe does not use the
excuse that the mess was created by
someone else; he does what should be
done regardless. We thank you Joe for
what you do to keep our environment
pleasant, but we also particularly want
to praise you for the good example you
set.
Nominated
by two students at RCHS, Mr. George
Wallace is receiving the “Making a
Difference” award for being an example
of all that a teacher can do for
students. Anyone who has observed Mr.
Wallace outside of ordinary
instructional time has seen him “helping
a lot of kids”. He routinely spends his
time before and after school and between
classes mentoring students by giving
them support, encouragement, and
guidance. Also, as an instructor, Mr.
Wallace’s methods are far from
ordinary. As one of the students who
nominated him reported, “[He] is a very
intelligent man…” who develops students’
skills and understanding by engaging
them in debates. “I can honestly say I
have lost every argument. He has shut
me down on every topic, and proved why I
was wrong as well. In doing this I have
learned a tremendous amount of
information, and have…become a better
debater with every lost argument. I now
go to class looking forward to an
argument so that I can get in it, lose,
and then learn from it.” Skilled
teachers really do make a difference in
the lives of children. Thank you Mr.
Wallace.
