ROANE COUNTY
FOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT
Roane County Schools provide healthy meals each
day through the breakfast and lunch programs established by
the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This
program raises awareness of good nutrition and trains food
service personnel to prepare nutritionally balanced
breakfast, lunch and snacks that are made with foods rich in
vitamins, minerals and fiber.
The county’s average daily participation for
breakfast is 1,114 and the average participation for lunch
is 1,899.
Families are provided an opportunity to apply
for free or reduced meals at the beginning of each school
year. These can be resubmitted at anytime there is a change
of income or family size by contacting the local school
where your child attends. Income guidelines change annually
and are set by the USDA.
Special dietary needs are provided at the school
if a doctor’s order accompanies this request which must
specify dietary substitutions.
Many studies have proven that only when a
child’s hunger has been satisfied are they willing and able
to use their minds to learn.
You will receive a bill
each month and are encouraged to return payment within 10
days. Charging meals is a privilege and we maintain the
right to refuse this privilege if payments are not made in a
timely fashion.
Thank you for your help in promoting good
nutrition and well balanced diets for our students in the
Roane County School System. |
