The following federally funded programs are available to qualifying students in Roane County Schools. Roane County Schools do not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, handicapping condition, marital status or national origin in the selection of students for educational programs and/or activities.



TITLE ONE

Remedial Reading and Mathematics are provided to students who need additonal help in these curricular areas in all Roane County Schools. "Title I" is a federally-funded grant. We currently employ 14 teachers and 7 aides to assist students with reading and mathematics.

"Title II", a federally-funded grant, states that the purpose of this program is to improve the skills of teachers and the quality of instruction in mathematics and science. Roane county was granted $21,022 under this program for the 1997-98 school year.

"Title VI" of the Improving America's School Act of 1994 , entitled "Innovative Education Program Strategies" is designed: (1) to support local education reform efforts which are consistent with and support statewide reform efforts under Goals 2000: Educate America Act, (2) to support state and local efforts to accomplish the National Education Goals; (3) to provide funding to enable state and local educational agencies to implement promising educational reform programs; (4) to provide a continuing source of innovation and educational improvement, including support for library services, plus instructional and media materials; and (5) to meet the special educational needs of "at-risk" and high cost students. Roane County was awarded $16,013 from this federal act for 1997-98 to improve school libraries and computer instruction.
